Vis’s educational background includes a Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering from Concordia University in Montreal, where he graduated at the top of the Engineering faculty and was chosen to be class valedictorian. He has also attended Private Pilot Ground School and has done research at the Von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics in Belgium. In 1981 he began his professional career at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as a research engineer in the Compressor Aerodynamics Dept. In 1984 he joined Bell Helicopter Textron in Texas as a Technical Specialist during the development of the Model 400 light twin helicopter. He also initiated and taught a graduate level course entitled “Helicopter Flight Dynamics”.
In 1987 he moved to Bombardier Aerospace in the Flight Sciences Dept. and has held a number of increasingly responsible roles. Vis has been extensively involved with the RJ-200, Global Express and RJ-700 aircraft programs. His work has included aerodynamic design and sizing, wind tunnel testing, flight testing and certification. As a Section Chief on the Global Express and RJ-700 programs, he supervised 10 engineers in the areas of Stability & Control, Performance and Weights, and was the focal point in Technical Engineering for dealing with program risk sharing partners and senior management. He was technically responsible for coordination of flight test plans, approval of design changes, conduct of safety reviews, crew briefings/debriefings, data analysis and certification report writing. In addition, he was a Transport Canada Design Approval Designee (D.A.D.).
In November 2001, he transitioned to Aerospace Concepts and is now the Executive Vice President. He is responsible for ACL’s core business projects, including Technical Management, Completions Management, Program Management and Engineering. He is further involved with all aspects of the ongoing company operations including Finance, Administration, Human Resources, Flight Operations Support, Research & Development, Contracts and Sales & Marketing.
